Secularization
With its decree of 17th September 1807, the Bavarian government disbanded all six monasteries in Tyrol on a single day. Once an inventory had been made and the assets of individual monasteries estimated, the government’s officials began with the removal of the most valuable objects and the auctioning off of the land and the monasteries’ furnishings and buildings.
Some of the Canons Regular were allocated to pastoral care service and professors from the monastery school were moved to state schools. Older brothers were given a pension and accommodated in the in the pastoral of Novacella care presbyteries.
