Guided garden tours
The historical garden is situated at the entrance to the monastery complex. It reopened in summer 2004 following extensive restoration work. The sequoia tree towers imposingly over the rear part of the garden, with the impressive centuries-old ginkgo trees directly opposite. The pretty baroque garden with its myriad flowers and herbs and beautiful fountain is laid out between them.
The pendulous grapes hanging from shady pergolas are especially inviting in autumn and divide the front area from the rear part of the baroque garden. Around 75 different varieties thrive in the herb garden which, in addition to familiar plants such as St. John’s wort, motherwort and fenugreek also includes exotic herbs such as lemon grass, pineapple sage, Jamaican thyme and tobacco.
Two historical features enrich the garden: the walk-in aviary and the ‘Piszin’, a tower-like fountain. It is surrounded by a ditch which once served for breeding edible fish and is now richly embellished with flowers. A fish pond has been built close to the aviary.
The historical garden is part of a religious retreat but can nevertheless be visited on three days per week.
