The Abbey complex

An (art) history book with an open ending

Neustift Abbey’s constant ability to incorporate the developments of the time is reflected in particular by its buildings. The Castle of the Angels at the entrance to the abbey and the massive bell tower of the church thus date back to around 1200 and are in the Romanesque style. With their pointed arches and artistic frescoes the cloisters, on the other hand, are typically Gothic. The Baroque era is also very present in Neustift Abbey. In the courtyard is the early Baroque Wonder Well, while the interior of the medieval abbey church is a masterpiece from the Late Baroque era.
