Our school boarding house is a temporary home.

In Neustift we’re at home together. Our boys, all with their own individual histories, learn how to deal openly and respectfully with one another. They are looked after by a professional support team that organizes a wide range of leisure activities, parties and celebrations, courses and further education opportunities, excursions and trips. The joint experiences create bonds, and result in friendships that often last a lifetime. And life in the boarding house is ultimately an enrichment with a lifelong effect.

Ever since its foundation, in other words for almost 900 years, education has been one of Neustift Abbey’s main responsibilities. For centuries the Augustinian canons ran a choristers’ school, later a theological institute, a juvenate and a commercially oriented secondary school (Bürgerschule). The school boarding house has existed since 1971 in its present form. While the older students go to and fro to Brixen where they attend various schools, the younger boys (11-14) don’t even have to leave the house. There is a branch of the ‘Oswald von Wolkenstein’ secondary school right here in the abbey.
