Forward-looking and sustainable economic management

An abbey has religious, cultural and social responsibilities, but cannot live from these. For this reason Neustift supports itself with eight enterprises employing around 80 people. The variety of these enterprises is rooted in the history of the abbey. First come the agricultural operations, the winery and farming in Neustift, Girlan and Bozen as well as alms and forestry in Riol and Schalders. Then there are the abbey shop and Stiftskeller bar and the abbey museum. Neustift’s centuries-old educational programme is supported by the student boarding house and the education and conference centre, The building administration is responsible for the maintenance of the abbey complex. The provost manages the abbey’s enterprises together with the abbey administrator – since the end of 2017 Fabian Schenk.

The economic enterprises

Since 1 December 2017, Fabian Schenk has been the administrator of Neustift Abbey. Together with the administrative department and the heads of each area he manages the individual abbey enterprises. The abbey currently has around 80 employees.
