Our values

Committed to tradition, but always open to the new.

The values on which we base our work have always been the same. One is the striving for quality – from that of production to that of the product. Another, however, there is respect for the terroir with the characteristic features that we want to see reflected in our wines.
This respect goes hand in hand with respect for nature. It is only with sustainable economic management that we’ll be able to leave nature as undamaged as possible for those who come after us.
Our tradition is a privilege, which is why we uphold it in everything we do. As contradictory as it may sound, this also means being open to the new, in order to be prepared for the next 900 years.

Our tradition is a privilege, sustainable management is a commandment.
Cellar master Celestino Lucin

Quality begins in the vineyard. Excellent wines can only be produced from grapes of the highest quality.
This is why we focus on quality-conscious work procedures, careful grapevine pruning and strict yield control. We rely on manual labour, not only because our vineyards are often too steep for machinery, especially during harvesting. But also because this is the only way to be selective and ensure that only the pick of the crop reaches the cellar.
Here the grapes are carefully processed and our wines are given plenty of time to mature. First in the barrel and then again – especially with the wines of the Praepositus line – in the bottle.

Wine is a natural product. This means that what nature gives us we treat with great respect.
It also means that our terroir, which is the unique combination of location, soil and microclimate, goes into the bottle. Neustift wines are thus special wines from a special area. Our task in the winery is therefore to bring out the particular characteristics of our terroir. For the white wines from Eisacktal this is above all the fruitiness, freshness and minerality, while for the red wines from Bozen and Girlan this is a mixture of the typical South Tyrolean character with the Neustift tradition.

With almost 900 years of wine culture behind us we know that standing still is not an option. What we have to do instead is recognize the challenges of the time and dare to try new means of mastering them.
The keywords here are climate change and sustainability, and in the latter case, in the wake of other far-reaching measures, we’re now concentrating on plant protection: with new, environmentally-friendly approaches and projects that are paving our way into the future.
The ability to face this future calmly and confidently is the privilege of those with deep roots. And our roots are anchored in nine centuries.
